Hearing Aid Repairs

Wolfpack Hearing Clinic in Fayetteville, AR

Hearing aids are technological marvels - despite their tiny size, they’re composed of many sophisticated parts that are constantly performing advanced functions. If you think you’re hearing aid may be in need of repair, try these steps before contacting you hearing health professional.

  • Keep your hearing aid clean. Earwax and other debris can easily get trapped in the small holes and spaces of your hearing aid, causing static sounds and feedback when in use. To prevent build-up, it’s important to clean the device everyday with a clean tissue.
  • Keep your ears clean. Along with keeping your hearing aid clean, it’s important to keep your ears clean too. The cleaner both your ears and device are, the less risk you’ll be in for needing repairs. To avoid earwax getting into your hearing aid, clean your ears daily with a washcloth (cotton swabs are not safe).
  • Keep your hearing aid dry. Exposure to excess moisture is the leading cause of hearing aid repairs. Hearing aids accumulate a lot of moisture in day-to-day use so it’s good to get into the habit of opening up your hearing aid each night, removing the batteries and letting it dry out. And take extra care if you are athletic or prone to heavy perspiration.

Unfortunately, even if you take the proper precautions and perform regular maintenance on your hearing aid, time will take its toll on all technology. As such, it’s possible that your hearing aid will eventually wear out over the course of everyday use.
