Figuring out what style hearing aid is right for you can be difficult. As outlined above, there is a wide range of different features and styles available to suit varying degrees of hearing loss. It’s important to consider several factors when determining the best hearing aid style for your needs.

If you currently wear a hearing aid and would like to update the technology, your current device is often the best place to start. With hearing technology constantly changing, users can frequently find a same or similar hearing aid to their outdated one that comes with the newest features. However, your specific type of hearing loss may have changed as well, so it’s important to get a check-up before updating devices.

If you have any dexterity problems, larger devices are generally preferable. Low profile ITE or BTE with ear-mold styles are typically suitable because they’re larger in size and easier to handle. The batteries will also be larger and easier to change. If you have problems with dexterity, you may also want to consider automated features, that can assist with adjusting volume or using your phone.

If you’re homebound or partake in limited activity, BTE styles with ear-molds may be the right fit. You can choose from soft and flexible materials so they’re comfortable to wear and easy to fit in.

You’ll also want to take into account your hearing abilities. For mild to moderate hearing loss, CIC, ITC and RIC styles are generally recommended. For severe or profound hearing loss, you may want to try ITC, low profile ITE, or BTE styles with ear-molds, depending on the extent of loss.

If any of this sounds overwhelming, don’t worry. Our hearing healthcare professionals will gladly guide you through the process of comparing hearing aids to fit your needs.
